Title: Admissions Counselor
Supervisor: Director of Admissions Counseling
Department: Admissions Counseling

Position summary

Serves as territory manager for a geographic region assisting in strategic planning in recruiting for that specific region as well all contact and communication with prospects, parents and guidance counselors from that area.

Qualifications

Education, Experience Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide community
  • A love of working with high school students
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Ability to work well within a team, but also a self-starter
  • Excellent telephone skills and an appreciation for the art of the phone call
  • Strong social media understanding and usability
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to travel alone
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; must be insurable
  • Ability to quickly learn new computer systems

Physical Requirements:

Medium work. Stooping; standing; walking; lifting; talking; hearing. Repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Essential functions

  • As the sole presenter, conducts daily individual and group admissions information sessions and tours for prospective students and parents. Responsible for keeping up to date with university information presented in the tour.
  • Collects data, plans and executes admissions travel to specified geographical regions serving as the University’s admissions representative and liaison to secondary schools and students in the region.
  • Determines how to best disseminate information about OBU to specific markets and tailor admissions activities accordingly.
  • Educates and updates high school professionals and prospective students concerning the University’s mission, characteristics and accomplishments.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of travel and makes adjustments for subsequent visits.
  • Coordinates and serves as admissions representative for admissions receptions in metropolitan areas involving OBU alumni, faculty and administrators.
  • Maintains contact with prospective students from their geographic region through phone calls, handwritten notes, e-mails and personal visits throughout the recruitment period. This can occur within the normal workday but will also require some evening calling each week.
  • Serves as the front line for Financial Aid counseling with prospective student families.
  • Assists in the implementation of special on campus recruitment programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other functions

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Oversees action of student callers including assignment of call lists and follow-up on those contacts.
  • Student Workers: while student workers report directly to the Admissions Counseling Director, Admissions Counselors are charged with keeping them on task and assigning them special projects.

The Office of Facilities Management at Ouachita Baptist University announces the following staff vacancies:

Title: Resident Director (RD)
Report to: Assistant Director of Residence Life
Supervision of: Resident Assistants (RAs)

Position summary

The Resident Director (RD) position is for an upperclassmen women’s residence hall. It is a 12-month professional live-in position with other responsibilities in Student Development/Student Life. The Resident Director will have a two-bedroom apartment within the residence hall. The RD is responsible for facilitating the physical, spiritual, intellectual and social development of residents and Resident Assistants as well as supporting the mission of Ouachita Baptist University, the Office of Student Development and the Residence Life department.

General duties

  • Cultivate a Residence Hall environment that fosters community through caring relationships, service to others, mutual encouragement, accountability and help them grow holistically.
  • Meet weekly with Resident Director staff for planning, information sharing and support.
  • Meet regularly with the Assistant Director of Residence Life for further training, advising and support.
  • Supervise and facilitate the responsibilities of 3-5 RAs through weekly individual meetings.
  • Hold RAs accountable for their job description through ongoing feedback and performance reviews.
  • Participate in the RA selection process.
  • Participate in RD and RA training at the beginning of each semester.
  • Advise students and staff with concerns, making appropriate referrals to campus resources.
  • Communicate and enforce University policies and guidelines, reporting incidents as necessary.
  • Plan and implement personal and professional goals at the beginning of each year.
  • Serve on Student Development and Residential Life committees as assigned.
  • Supervise move-in and move-out, paperwork, collection of keys and other administrative duties.
  • Conduct safety inspections as needed in conjunction with RA staff.
  • Communicate regularly with Facilities Management, Office of Safety and Emergency Management and campus vendors regarding hall needs, especially safety concerns.
  • Abide by Residence Life dates, call schedules and weekends off as coordinated by the Assistant Director of Residence Life.
  • Document and facilitate minor conduct infractions that occur in the residence hall. Refer handbook violations to the Dean of Students.
  • Hold weekly office hours for assigned focus area and assist Student Development during the weeks leading to housing selections and preparations.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Additional focus area: Student Life (15 hours per week)

  • Assist in Student Life with events designed to provide opportunities for connection and community.
  • Time to be split between office hours and events.

Qualifications

  • Communication, leadership and management skills
  • Minimum bachelor's degree
  • Applicants with student development experience will be given first consideration
