Office of Campus Safety & Emergency Management
About Us
Ouachita’s Office of Campus Safety & Emergency Management maintains the safety and
protection of all students, faculty, staff, visitors, and property affiliated with
Ouachita Baptist University. To best serve the university, the office includes two
divisions, service officers and police. The Police Department is a fully commissioned
law enforcement agency.
Police
Ouachita employs police officers who are fully commissioned with the state of Arkansas. They play an integral role in the success and safety of the Ouachita community. Some of their basic duties include:
- Engaging in community-style policing
- Patrolling all campus grounds
- Conducting criminal investigations
- Enforcing state, local and national laws
- Responding to 911 calls for service
- Providing security at university sporting events
Service
Ouachita employs non-commissioned service officers who assist the university police department in many ways. Their duties include:
- Locking/unlocking university buildings during specified times
- Responding to fire alarms
- Aiding university police in performing non-law enforcement functions
- Providing additional security at university sporting events
- Operating the 24/7 Safe Destination Program
- Responding to non-emergency/law enforcement-related calls for service
- Patrolling all campus grounds
- Issuing university parking citations
- Handling university parking/building reservations
Mission Statement
The mission of the Office of Campus Safety and Emergency Management is to provide
a safe and secure campus environment for all students, faculty, staff and visitors.
This responsibility is met with a commitment to vigilance, selfless service and integrity
and with a demeanor consistent with the Christ-centered principles of the university.
